From here you can take a nice walk to the fairytale-like Kasteel de Haar. First of all, you pick up a piece of Vleuten: now a neighborhood of Utrecht, but this was once an independent village. In Vleuten, for example, you can walk through the Maxima Park, an oasis of tranquility where a Roman army camp once stood. Soon you walk out of the built-up area. Castle De Haar is the highlight of this route, it is the largest castle in the Netherlands. The castle originally dates from the fourteenth century, the current castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. You also walk behind Den Ham, the largest medieval residential tower in our country. The tower measures 27 meters!

Kasteel de Haar Utrecht is the largest and most luxurious castle in the Netherlands and is one of the top international historic country houses. A visit will take you back to the castle's heyday and the enormous wealth in which the international jet set lived at the beginning of the 20th century. De Haar shows the un-Dutch opulence in which the baron and baroness and their guests lived with a wealth of art and cultural history. Master architect Pierre Cuypers (known for the Rijksmuseum design) restored the castle by order of Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt van De Haar between 1892 and 1912 in a way that is unparalleled in Europe. The Baron and Baroness' illustrious guests included the likes of Coco Chanel, Maria Callas, Roger Moore, Yves Saint Laurent, Brigitte Bardot and Joan Collins. The castle is buzzing with contemporary activities such as exhibitions, tours, theater and events.
