Your route starts at Pannenkoekenboerderij Brinkzicht. In the National Landscape Drentsche Aa you will find the typical Drenthe landscape that could be found throughout Drenthe centuries ago. Enjoy higher fields and hay meadows, meadows in the stream valley, fields on the convex ash and Saxon farms around the brink. If you cycle towards Rolde you will pass two burial mounds from the Bronze Age. In the Bronze Age, the dead were often buried in such a burial mound, just like the dead in other places in Drenthe were buried in dolmens. Burial mounds were often used to bury several people. These places were not only used as a final resting place for the dead, but also as a place of worship. Today, the burial mounds are protected as a historical monument.
