The Hollands Plassengebied is a stone's throw from Lisse. The Hollands Plassengebied is located in the middle of the Green Heart. Cycling through the Hollands Plassengebied you will pass through characteristic Dutch villages and along many lakes, ponds, rivers and ditches, interspersed with vast polders. In addition, the area is rich in different types of windmills. Enjoy the vastness and tranquility of this beautiful area. A large part of the route passes through the municipality of Kaag en Braassem, which was created on 1 January 2009 from the merger of the municipalities of Alkemade and Jacobswoude. Kaag en Braassem consists of eleven centers: Bilderdam, Hoogmade, Kaag, Leimuiden, Nieuwe Wetering, Oud Ade, Oude Wetering, Roelofarendsveen, Rijnsaterwoude, Rijpwetering and Woubrugge. Although the route goes around Leiden, the city is definitely worth a visit. Leiden is known for its almshouses, university, museums and glorious history. The canals, the monumental buildings, the alleys, the treasuries of knowledge, culture and science; let us surprise you. If you stay on the route, Warmond is the next village. Warmond is a quiet village, located on the Kagerplassen with a view of the Green Heart and adjacent to the Bollenstreek. Warmond is also an old village. Located on a 4,000-year-old beach ridge and protected by a toll gate until the 1950s, Warmond is at home in all markets. It has a forest, a castle, a church ruin from the 80-year war complete with knight graves and beautiful country houses. After leaving Warmond you return to Lisse. In Lisse you can rest and enjoy the cycling route in one of the many catering establishments in Lisse!
