Korenburgerveen is a nature reserve just northwest of Winterswijk. It is largely in the hands of the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten and the area mainly consists of raised moors, swamp forest, heathland and nutrient-poor grasslands. Wool grass grows in the area and you look out over endless yellow seas of curled milk thistle. Two bird species that you will find a lot are the lesser spotted woodpecker and the hawk. In the swampy areas you can come across a grass snake here and there. On arrival you can park your car for free in the parking lot of Grandcafe Willinks. Before you start, you can also have a nice breakfast or choose a delicious lunch from the extensive menu. If you are not hungry, a drink on the sun-drenched terrace in beautiful Winterswijk before you get on your bike is a good start to your day out. The Sevink Mölle is a beautiful round stone belt mill built in 1867 just outside Meddo. The mill was mainly used as a flour mill and was completely restored in 2000, after standing still for 70 years. The mill has been made completely ready to grind again and has been in use since 2001. The Sevink Mölle now runs on a voluntary basis and for a visit you can pick up the key yourself from the manager in the pancake house next to the mill. Windmill de Vier Winden was built in 1958 in the village of Polender. The mill is an octagonal scaffolding mill that was used as a flour mill. The mill replaces its predecessor, which was built around 1860, but was demolished due to wind problems. This scaffolding mill is the last mill that was built in the Netherlands for economic reasons. The mill is still running on a professional basis. In addition, the mill can be visited every day for interested parties who want to know more about the miller's profession.
