Tour of Holten and Nijverdal

Your route starts at Restaurant & IJssalon Nijkamp. It is a steep climb to the top of the Hellendoornse Berg, which is heavily wooded. The hill is 40 meters high and was named after the village located east of the Hellendoornse Berg. The Hellendoornse Berg is located in the Sallandse Heuvelrug nature reserve, but is not officially part of the park. The landscape of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park was formed 200,000 years ago by glaciers from Scandinavia. The Scandinavian land ice of the penultimate ice age also brought large floating boulders. Nijveldal is a young one between the ancient villages of Holten and Hellendoorn. In 1836, a textile factory and industrial center was built there. Nijverdal subsequently developed into one of the most important places in this region.
