Most of the Somerense Heide consists of heath reclamation and in the area there is also a strong focus on livestock farming. Monuments and historical sites have been marked and the areas have been made accessible. The nature in Southeast Brabant is attracting more and more tourists for a reason.

Nature here is dominated by green forests and barren moors. Conifers were planted in an area that mainly consisted of heather and were given ample opportunity to germinate further.

De Vroolijke Jager is a good example of this. The remains of an extensive urn field form a well-known monument on the estate'De Vroolijke Jager\\\'. A Roman money hoard and a sword in a Hallstatt culture tumulus have also been found nearby.

If you cycle further south, you will pass through the Weerterbos. This is one of the few really old forests in the area and the trees in the area have been swaying in the wind for as long as one can remember.

The area used to be much wetter, but because the area was laid out by grassland, the forest dried up considerably. There are several places of interest in the Weerterbos, such as an open-air church from the mid-seventeenth century, a watchtower built on the site of a historic farm and a road cross that was erected to commemorate killed aircrew from World War II.

When you leave the Weerterbos it is nice to take a break at Huyskamer Daatjeshoeve. Make sure you go out safely by having your bike checked at Profile Meulendijks. The location of the bicycle specialist can be found at the start and end of the route, where you can also park your car for free.
