Description

A picturesque, idyllic landscape emerges between Ruurlo and Lochum: De Graafschap National Landscape. A beautiful small-scale landscape with fairytale vistas in a semi-open area. The interplay of wooded banks, hedges, farms, fields and streams gives the area something exciting. De Wildenborch Castle is first mentioned in 1372. It was strategically located in the middle of swamps, making it an ideal shelter after raids. In the Aaltense Goor reserve you can still see the small, narrow plots of hay land, separated from each other by ditches and alder canals. The rest of the old cultural landscape has disappeared due to land consolidation. The bocage landscape also has many estates and castles that are typical for the area.
