This cycle route starts at Café de Gevangenpoort/Restaurant La Galera in historic Edam. You will soon drive to Volendam. The Volendam traditional costume is very well known. In promotional activities and articles, this regional costume regularly represents the'national\\\' costume. You also visit the island of Marken with a ferry trip. The water of the IJsselmeer gives the trip extra atmosphere. Get a breath of fresh air and experience for yourself how special this area is. The residents have always been fighting to protect home and hearth against the water. Terps were erected and later the houses were even built on stilts. During your bike ride you will pass two fortresses: Fort Benoorden Purmerend, now a wine trade, and Fort bij Kwadijk. Only the access road, a fort guard's house and a shed have been preserved.
