Description

In National Park Veluwezoom you will find all kinds of landscapes: lush forests, wide heaths and some special sand drifts. Common heather, common heather, gorse and gorse are common on the moorland plains, and bracken, bilberries and lingonberries grow in the woods.

Various animals
The Veluwezoom is also home to a variety of animals. You will find large and small mammals such as red deer, roe deer, wild boar, foxes, badgers, stoats and rare pine martens. Be sure to bring your binoculars if you like to spot birds. This area is home to kingfishers, tree falcons, honey buzzards and skylarks. In addition, there are all kinds of reptiles in the park, such as the ring snake and the sand lizard.

Food for history buffs
The route takes you from Arnhem along part of the Liberation Route. On this route you will find a lot of information about the events between 1944 and 1945 in North Brabant, around Arnhem and Nijmegen and on the Veluwe. There are listening points in the area where you can listen to fragments about the events.

Pancake house Den Strooper
If you continue cycling you will pass Rozendael Castle, Zijpendaal Castle and the Groot Warnsborn estate. After about 20 kilometers of cycling, you will arrive at Pannenkoekenhuis Den Strooper. Here you can relax from the day while enjoying a delicious pancake. Then you can cycle the last part of the route full of new energy.

Rozendael Castle
This castle came into the possession of the dukes of Guelders around 1300. The castle was very popular due to its beautiful location on the edge of the Veluwe. The medieval fortress consisted of a main keep with an outer bailey and a massive keep with walls up to four meters thick. Only the keep is still standing today, although it was originally twice as high. In 1722 a large square house was built against the tower and a side wing was added in the nineteenth century. The coach house also dates from that time. The shell gallery, the deceivers and the tea dome were designed by the famous French landscape architect Daniel Marot.
