This route takes you along the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen west coast. Inland you will pass some historical sights, such as old mills and churches.
Nieuwerkerkse Creek
You start your bike ride in a beautiful spot: at the Molenkreek. Here is Hulsters Molen, a flour mill from 1884 that replaced a blown-down predecessor. Further on you pass through the nature reserve around the Nieuwerkerkse Kreek. This creek was created when pro-state troops pierced the dikes to stop the Spaniards. The plan succeeded, although some villages disappeared completely in the waves. Including Nieuwerkerke, the namesake of the creek.
Breskens
In Nieuwvliet you will pass two flour mills. The first thing you see is the hull of the Luteyn from 1859. Further on is an unnamed mill from 1850. You can get a breath of fresh air in the dunes along the North Sea, while looking out over the sea. You pass the Nieuwe Sluis, the oldest existing cast-iron lighthouse from 1867. In Breskens you can enjoy the cozy atmosphere. You will also visit Mobile bicycle service, a mobile workshop for bicycle repairs on location.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
