Explore the northern part of Central Zealand and cycle across Noord-Beveland. The former island is connected to the mainland by three dams and a bridge. After a major storm surge, the first dikes were built in 1014. Mounds were also raised. After another storm surge in 1134, the whole of Noord-Beveland was diked in, but to no avail: in 1134 storm winds pushed the water so high that the entire island was flooded. The villages of Colijnsplaat and Kats were built in 1598 and Wissenkerke was also created in the following century. After that, the reclamation went quickly: in 1684 the whole of Noord-Beveland had been reclaimed. During the flood disaster (1953) what is known as'the miracle of Colijnsplaat\\\' took place: a dyke breach was prevented in the nick of time.

Corn mill De Onderneming can be seen from afar. The round, stone scaffolding mill dates from 1860 and is still capable of grinding. Here the miller grinds grain organically, which is stored in a shed behind the mill. Some parts of the scaffolding brace have been removed to ensure that trucks can easily reach the shed. In Colijnsplaat is the Never Thought. This is also a round stone mill, also called'de Nieuwe Molen\\\', because there are two mills in Colijnsplaat. The mill was built to replace an earlier octagonal mill that stood on the same site. The mill ran until the 1970s, but then it came to a standstill and fell into disrepair. In 2006 it was restored, so that the mill can at least run again. The second mill in Colijnsplaat is De Oude Molen. Unlike its younger brother, this mill can still turn and grind grain. The ground sailer, which was built in 1727, probably replaces an earlier post mill. There are two pairs of millstones in the mill, with which the mill is put into operation on a voluntary basis. Finally you come to the last mill on the route: De Korenbloem (hull/remainder) in Kortgene. It is a round stone smock mill from 1873 that replaced a burnt-out octagonal ground sailer. The upper porter was used to grind corn and has five attics: a grain loft, a mill loft, a stone loft, a lazy loft and a hood loft. Until 1953 the mill operated on wind power. In 1972 the blades were removed and in 1977 the mill was also stripped of its hood. During restorations in 2010 and 2011, the mill was restored to the state it was in 1873.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!
