Your route starts at Duinhotel Breezand. National Landscape Walcheren shows you the best of what Zeeland has to offer. The oldest parts of the landscape are the historic row of dunes, the creek ridges and pools formed by low, open basin areas. These beautiful natural features remind you that the area once belonged to the sea. Along the way you will also come across Westhove Castle. With beautiful towers, the robust castle and the green, carefully landscaped estate surrounding it are a feast for the eyes. The castle was already mentioned in 1277 as the property of the Middelburg Abbey, but it probably existed much longer. The castle has had many owners, because every time a new abbot came, Westhove became the property of the new brother.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were used not only to produce flour from cereals, but also to reclaim polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
Kasteel Westhove
Westhove Castle was once a mighty castle. The castle was already mentioned in a charter from 1277. It belonged to the abbey in Middelburg. It is not clear how old the castle was then. And by whom it was built. Not much remains of the medieval castle. But enough to still capture the imagination! You can still see the lower parts of some towers and some parts of wall work. The castle is largely freely accessible. In the former orangery you will find the Terra Maris museum. Furthermore, a replica of a medieval moth castle has been placed in the garden of the castle. There is a hostel in the castle and the coach houses. You can guess. This is a top destination for children.
