Tour of forts in West Brabant

In the northwest of Brabant you will pass some former defense works. The most famous is of course the picturesque Willemstad, where you can visit the Mauritshuis. In the rural areas of Northwest Brabant you will not find dense forests, but vast polders of grassy meadows and fields that are lined with rows of tall trees. You drive many kilometers over winding dikes through the basin of the Dintel, the river that is still called the Mark upstream. On the edge of Klundert are several sixteenth-century fortifications that are part of the Defense Line of the Hollands Diep. Further afield is Noordschans: this hamlet is named after the former Fort Hollandia, which was lost in a flood in 1682. Stop in Fijnaart at De Fendertse Hoeve for a cup of coffee!
