Soon after you start in Halle you can grab a terrace at Cafe de Boer. After crossing Lichtenvoorde you will discover Wijngaard and Uutbloas stop Hofstee De Vennebulten, also a nice place to stop for a drink. One of the remnants of the rich history of the village of Varsseveld is the De Engel tower mill, built in 1850. From here you set course for the Slangenburg estate. Slangenburg Castle was decorated with beautiful murals in the 17th century. Frederik Johan van Baer, who lost his wife to a serious illness, then had the building decorated with paintings that reminded him of his beloved. Slangenburg estate and castle now serve as a guest house for the impressive Sint Willibrord Abbey, which you just cycled past.
