In the northeast of Friesland it is wonderful to cycle through an extensive wide polder landscape. You will find some picturesque terp villages. And beautiful old churches and mills.
Terp village Anjum The first sight is the Ropta, a corn and hulling mill from 1836. In Morra you can take a look at the beautiful thirteenth-century St. John's Church. In the beautiful terp village Anjum you can see De Eendracht, a corn mill from 1889 that houses a museum. The beautiful Michael Church dates from 1100, it is partly built of tuff stone.
Lauwersmeer From Oostmahorn you have a beautiful view over the Lauwersmeer National Park. Along the banks you can enjoy the rugged nature and un-Dutch silence, except during the goose migration. The lock in Ezumazijl originally dates from 1672. A little further on is De Gans, a polder mill from 1850. The terp villages of Ee (which has the shortest place name in the Netherlands) and Metslawier enjoy protected village views. Take your time to enjoy the historic atmosphere.
