From Coevorden you can take a cycling tour through the varied Drenthe countryside with its beautiful sights. You will pass Coevorden Castle, among other things, and just before Dalen you will pass De Bente from 1814. At junction 71 you cycle through the Klencke, an estate that is part of a manor. In Oosterhesselen you pass the beautiful village church with its free-standing tower. Just past the village of Mantinge you drive through two nature reserves. In the Mantingerveld you will see plenty of heathland and drifting sand hills covered with juniper berries. Combined with a beautiful fen and stream valley, it forms a true mosaic. In Boswachterij Gees you cycle past deciduous trees and a heathland. The area around Dalerpeel still exudes the atmosphere of Drenthe from the time of the large peat bogs. The route ends at Hotel Restaurant Talens.

Molen De Arend

De Arend

Windmill De Arend was originally a windmill from Haarlem. This tower mill with wooden octagon was built in Haarlem in 1888 and in 1894 the mill was moved to Coevorden. Before this, there was already another mill in Coevorden, but it burned down in 1890. Over the centuries the mill has been restored several times. For example, in 1937 the rods were streamlined and in 1977 the mill was restored on a large scale. The mill had stood still for about 25 years and was therefore completely in disrepair. The restoration was completed in 1979 and the mill has been running regularly since then. In 2013 the grinding mechanism in the mill was improved, so that the mill could grind on wind power again, and in 2014 the mill was repainted in the colors that the mill had around 1937. In 2008 there were plans to build a replica of De Arend in Vancouver at the Holland House during the Winter Olympics. However, this plan was eventually canceled.
