This route takes you past countless ancient cemeteries in the form of dolmens and burial mounds. The mounds were raised over human remains, which were kept in a coffin or urn. Burial mounds were expanded and later deceased people were'interred\\\' in this way. In total there are about 60 burial mounds in the Strubben-Kniphorstbos near Anloo. You will also regularly come across dolmens here. Hunebed D14 is very recognizable. The stones are so gigantic that you wonder how they ever managed to put them on top of each other with only stones and wooden tools. Hunebed D08 is located along the edge of the forest. The wreath stones are missing, but it is still one of the most beautiful and complete dolmens in Drenthe. Take a break halfway through at Pannenkoekenboerderij Brinkzicht!
