Between Bussloo and Voorst

This route takes you through the eastern part of the Veluwe. Here you will find rustic villages, meadows, estates and historic water and grain mills. Voorst itself is best known for its 15th-century church, Korenmolen De Zwaan and the Hidden Gardens of Bert Loman. At the southernmost point of the route you will pass De Middelste Molen on the Loenense Molenbeek. This mill has been making paper since 1622 and is still in its original state. Further on you will pass the Apeldoorns Canal, which was dug in 1869 to connect Apeldoorn with the IJssel. The canal makes a few large bends around two debris fans of the Veluwe moraine. After you have visited Lieren you will arrive at Goat farm Van't Hooi land. Maybe there are kids, or maybe you're hungry for a refreshing glass of goat's milk! Further on you will find Recreatieplas Bussloo, which was created in 1969 from a sand excavation. During the excavation, remains of mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, giant deer and aurochs were found. On the northeast side of the route you cross the Veluwe bandijk and cycle into the polder De Wilpse Klei, a varied floodplain landscape with gullies, willows, hawthorn hedges and an old tree dike. Finally, at Gietelo you pass the ruins of Slot Nijenbeek. The castle was already mentioned in 1296 and was best known for the imprisonment in 1364 of Duke Reinald van Gelre.
