Large Heath and King's Forest near Achterlee

Lichtaart is located between the Grote Heide and the Koningsbos. For tens of thousands of years, the Poederleezee brought sand, loam and clay to the region. This created a dune ridge, the highest peaks of which are formed by De Hoge Mouw, De Zwarte Berg, De Hoge Berg and De Langenberg. The nature in Lichtaart is incredibly beautiful. The beautiful river, the Kleine Nete, the mysterious ponds that used to be surrounded by wild marshes and the special sunken roads are just a few of the many relaxing things you will encounter between Lichtaart and Kasterlee, while you wander through the gigantic forests in which many flowers and plants grow lushly and which are populated by many different birds and mammals. The Peerdsbos north of Herentals also brings you complete peace. History first refers to the nature reserve in 1434, which was then still called"Peertsbusch\\\". In the most famous forest of the entire province, the continuous sea of trees is only interrupted by a few meadows and romantic views of open spaces. The forest, where many hikers also come to their heart's content, has been maintained by the municipality of Antwerp since 1935.
