Grote Heide and Koningsbos near Achterlee

Lichtaart is located between the Grote Heide and the Koningsbos. For tens of thousands of years, the Poederlee Sea supplied sand, loam and clay to the region. This created a dune ridge, the highest peaks of which are formed by De Hoge Mouw, De Zwarte Berg, De Hoge Berg and De Langenberg. The nature in Lichtaart is incredibly beautiful. The beautiful river, the Kleine Nete, the mysterious ponds that used to be surrounded by wild swamps and the special sunken roads are just a selection of the many soothing things you will encounter between Lichtaart and Kasterlee, while you wander through the gigantic forests in which many flowers and plants grow lush and are populated by many different birds and mammals. The Peerdsbos north of Herentals also brings you complete relaxation. History first refers to the nature reserve in 1434, which was then called"Peertsbusch\\\". In the most famous forest in the entire province, the continuous sea of trees is only interrupted by a few meadows and romantic views of open spaces. The forest, where many hikers come to enjoy themselves, has been maintained by the municipality of Antwerp since 1935.
