Description

Your route starts at Orangerie Mattemburgh. Heathlands, fens, sand drifts and a lush forest, you will find all that on the Kalmthoutse Heide. This route takes you through this nature reserve of approximately 3750 hectares. The Kalmthoutse Heide is protected at European level for its aesthetic and landscape value. Human intervention ensures that the area does not become fully covered with forest. Sods allow plants such as shrub heather, heath and sundew to develop better. You also cycle across the Brabantse Wal. This moraine was created during the last Ice Age. The edge of the sand plateau reaches a height of up to 20 meters! At the Kraaijenberg Visitor Center on the Markiezaatsmeer you will find a lookout tower and bird observation hut, nice to take with you before you cycle back.
