Description

This beautiful route largely goes through De Veluwezoom National Park. With 5,000 hectares, it is one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the Netherlands. You will find extensive forests and heathlands, remnants of drifting sand and estates. In 1930, Veluwezoom became the first Dutch National Park. You can start the route at any junction on the route. The route can be cycled in two directions. The most famous point in the De Veluwezoom National Park is the'Posbank\\\', where you can see as far as Germany in clear weather. Leave your bike at one of the parking lots on the edge of the nature reserve and discover the unique places on foot. Then relax, have a drink and enjoy the view from Koepel, the Cape or Pavilion de Posbank. It is also worth getting off your bike in the woods around Loenen. Visit the Sheepfold (between junctions 32 and 87) or the Honorary Cemetery (junction 28), where Dutch war victims are buried. Between junctions 28 and 51 you will find the Loenense Waterfall, the largest natural waterfall in the Netherlands, where the water falls of about 15 meters. Paper factory De Middelste Molen on the Loenense Molenbeek (located between junctions 52 and 58) has been producing paper since 1622. De Middelste Molen is the only authentic water-powered paper mill in the Netherlands. Production, several times a week, is done both mechanically and by hand. The process is still the same as it was almost 400 years ago. You can visit the paper factory during the bike tour from Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the tour you will pass part of the so-called 'Koning Willem III railway line' which runs from Apeldoorn via Beekbergen, Immenbergweg, Loenen and Eerbeek to Dieren. In the summer months and during special holidays you can find the steam train of the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij (Eerbeek VSM) on this route. Would you like to ride along sometime? Please visit www.stoomtrein.org for the timetable and other additional information. (C) This cycling route is offered to you by the Veluws Tourist Office.
