Description
With this route you will discover the charm of Het Buitenveld, an unspoilt and varied nature reserve between the Frisian villages of Giekerk and Veenwouden. You will also visit Dokkum and several villages with centuries-old churches.
Picturesque Dokkum
This historic fortified city was founded in 754 and has more than 140 national monuments. You will easily experience the characteristic historic atmosphere here. Just past junction 57 you will enter the Buitenveld. You will see a mix of grasslands, swamp forests, open water pools and vast reed and rough fields. In this cozy landscape you will still find an old-fashioned peace. What a beautiful area!
Village of States
In Tietjerk you pass the beautiful St. Vitus church. A little later you see Groot Vijversburg on the left, a historic estate. The thatched Ypey mill dates from 1858, since 1981 this polder mill is at its current location.
