Cycling through Spaarnwoude

Just outside Haarlem it is beautiful to cycle through the Spaarnwoude nature and recreation area. Jump on the saddle and experience the charm of this green oasis for yourself. You start the cycle route at Brasserie Halverwege. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee with the famous homemade apple pie, a delicious lunch or a meal on the sun terrace on the waterfront. Then you cycle with a detour to Spaarndam. You cycle past Beautiful Nel, a lake whose original name was 'Mooie Hel'. You can get a breath of fresh air along the banks and enjoy the rippling water. Just past Spaarndam-Oost you pass the Slokop, a thatched polder mill from 1877. You also pass the Fort at Penningsveer, which is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam.
