Historical route: fortified town of Heusden and Ammersoyen Castle

Your cycling route starts at the easily accessible Café restaurant Treurenburg. Between the bustle of the capital of the province of North Brabant's-Hertogenbosch and smaller villages such as Kerkdriel, Hedel and Ammerzoden, you can enjoy yourself along the banks of the River Maas. First you cycle to the beautifully restored historic fortified town of Heusden. Then you cross the Maas for a nice round trip on either side of this mighty river. The crossing takes place twice with a ferry, always fun! The route also takes you past Ammersoyen Castle, one of the best preserved moated castles in the Netherlands. The castle dates from 1026 and the original square design is still clearly recognizable. During construction, the castle was located in or on the Maas, but in 1354 the course of the river changed.
