This route starts at VVV Zandvoort aan Zee, they will tell you the fun and surprising places in Zandvoort and the surrounding area. These are definitely worth getting off the bike for a while. Experience something unique, discover nature, be pampered and above all... enjoy. On presentation of the bicycle discount pass you will receive a 20% discount on a Falk-VVV bicycle card of your choice. Safe and secure on the road! Instead of turning onto the Zeeweg, continue following the coastline until Parnassia. Along the way you will get a taste of the natural beauty that is yet to come. At Parnassia you enter the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. On the winding cycle path you cross the South Kennemerland National Park through the Kennemerduinen, Duin & Kruidberg and the Heerenduinen. After approximately 11.7 km you arrive in IJmuiden. Take the time to admire the mighty locks between the North Sea and the North Sea Canal. The lock complex consists of the Zuidersluis from 1876, the Middensluis from 1896, the Noordersluis from 1926, the Spuisluis and the Gemaal. West of the locks lies Fort Island, part of the Amsterdam defense line. After the route takes you around IJmuiden, you gradually start the second half of the route. The road leads you past Duin Castle and Kruidberg. In the 17th century, this castle served as a resting place for wealthy Amsterdam residents. Today the location is used as a hotel, restaurant and brasserie. A little further on are the remains of Brederode Castle, the Ruine Van Brederode. Be sure to stop and take a look at the remains of the castle, which was founded in the second half of the 13th century by Willem 1 van Brederode. Continue your way through the east side of the National Park along the fascinating inner dune edge and towards the famous Kraantje Lek restaurant. While some children are brought by the stork, mothers in Zandvoort aan Zee and the surrounding area collect their children from'De Holle Boom\\\' at Kraantje Lek. Although the tree has since been removed, a bronze version has returned to commemorate this folk tale. Via the Visserspad you arrive tired but satisfied in the center of Zandvoort aan Zee. Enjoy a well-deserved fries at Fritures d\\\'Anvers on Kosterstraat or a hearty bowl of soup from Fleur at De Kaashoek. At both locations you can enjoy a nice discount with the bicycle discount pass. If you want to cycle the route, but you do not have a bicycle at hand, you can of course also rent one in Zandvoort aan Zee at Behind the Beach Bike Rentals at Haltestraat 51. With the bicycle discount pass you will receive a 15% discount. Fancy being active? = Looking forward to Zandvoort! This cycling route is offered to you by VVV Zandvoort.
