Your route starts at Cafe-Terras Ons Lieske. The nature around Heeze, Someren and Sterksel is dominated by green forests and barren heathland. You will also come across nice villages and a beautiful castle: Heeze Castle. The first mention of the castle dates back to 1172. The 18th century furnishings have remained virtually intact, despite the fact that the castle is inhabited. It consists of the medieval Eymerick Castle and a newer castle from the 17th century. The Herbertusbossen are named after the first Lord of Heeze and have a lot of variation. Deciduous and coniferous trees are thicker and fuller here: they have been there for a while! The Somerense Heide consists largely of heathland reclamation, just like in the De Vroolijke Jager nature reserve, the conifers here are planted on former heathland.
