Description

Small forests, drifting sand, grazing sheep, but also typical flora and fauna and the largest fen in the Netherlands can be found on the Strabrechtse Heide, of which the Lieropse Heide is a part. This well-known nature reserve in southeast Brabant covers more than 1,500 hectares. This makes the Strabrechtse Heide one of the largest heathland areas in the Netherlands. The area has been made easily accessible to visitors through intensive management by Staatsbosbeheer. Various grasses and shrubs attract small rodents and several species of birds. To the west of the heath, a Kempen village has been recreated, which provides shelter for the 300 Kempen sheep that graze the area. There is always something to do on the Lieropse Heide for the observant cyclist.
