Tour of Bergen op Zoom

This route takes you past various sights in the municipalities of Bergen op Zoom and Woensdrecht, located on the Brabantse Wal. The unique thing about the Brabantse Wal is the natural height difference; the steep edge appears in the landscape on the border with Belgium below Ossendrecht, climbs to + 20 m NAP at Hoogerheide and Woensdrecht, becomes lower at Bergen op Zoom and Halsteren and disappears into the subsoil at the Kladde (Steenbergen). The starting point of the route is the VVV in Bergen op Zoom in the center where we find many monumental buildings and terraces. From the Grote Markt, follow the signs for the cycle route network via the Kerkstraat. You follow the signs towards junction 15. In the outskirts of Bergen op Zoom you cycle past Landgoed Lievensberg. A walk through the area is recommended. Kaasboerderij De Zuidgeest is one of the farms on the Brabantse Wal. Many types of dairy products are made here in a traditional way. Landgoed Mattemburgh consists of a villa with a beautifully landscaped garden and orangery from the period 1844-1850. Nowadays, a catering facility is located in the orangery. On the way back to the center you cycle past De Binnenschelde -a recreational lake-, the Prison Gate (Bergen op Zoom's oldest monument) and city palace/museum Het Markiezenhof. During this bike ride you can relax at the many catering establishments along the route: from (food) café to renowned restaurant.
