Castles in the IJssel valley

You will find plenty of sights in the IJssel valley. You pass three castles and through the old city of Doesburg. You also drive a bit through the woods on the Veluwezoom.

Veluwezoom
Your route starts from the Posbank. Enjoy the view before you cycle into the woods. You will see many old oaks and beeches here. You will also pass through the star forest of Hof ter Heide, an ancient estate. On top of the Carolinaberg is a beautiful old beech, a special place. In the IJssel valley you can enjoy a wide landscape, on the horizon the Veluwezoom towers above everything like a beacon.

Castle Middachten
You pass through Doesburg, a charming town full of old buildings. You pass Landgoed Bingerden, one of the oldest in the Netherlands. In Giesbeek you will pass De Hoop, a flour mill from 1888. In Rheden it is time for a delicious pancake and coffee at Pannekoekhuis Strijland. In picturesque De Steeg you will find two centuries-old country houses. First you will pass Rhederoord, secondly the originally medieval Middachten Castle is on your route.
