The Lauwersland Landscape Route takes you past the wierden villages of Winsum and Tinallinge. The wierden landscape is regarded as the oldest cultural landscape in the Netherlands. Follow the cycling junctions to cycle the most beautiful road in the area. The route starts at the VVV in Winsum, cycle junction 69. Winsum is a very old place that has been around since 600 BC. is inhabited. Winsum has the medieval Torenkerk as well as two octagonal tower mills, De Ster and De Vriendschap. On to Bedum, cycling junctions 95, 14, 13, 22, 05, 04, 06 and 07. The first inhabitants settled in Bedum around 600 AD. On the site of the grave of Saint Walfridus, a devoted Christian who was murdered by the Normans, is a church, which is best known for its leaning tower. Then we go to Onderdendam, cycling junctions 09, 10, 17 and 16. Onderdendam is known for its old corn mill Molen Husingo from 1870, the former courthouse and the reformed church from 1933. On the way we also pass the Mariakerk, reformed. The Mariakerk is one of the oldest brick churches in the province of Groningen. The Romanesque building stands on the village wierde in the center of the village. Until 1655 there was a separate bell tower at the church. The building is owned by the Old Groninger Churches Foundation. Follow cycle junctions 50 and 96 to reach the small village of Tinallinge. Tinallinge is around 500 BC. originated on a mound. A walk around the wierde can be made via the Ossepad. In the village, on top of the wierde, stands the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk, reformed from 1250. An option is to also visit Baflo. For this you need to follow cycle junctions 30, 29, 71. The mound of Baflo forms a double mound with that of the village of Rasquert. In the 12th century, the tuff Reformed Church of Baflo was built.
