From Alphen to Riel and the Nieuwkerk estate

This route takes you on a loop around the Regte Heide. You'll pass through Alphen and Riel, among other places, and you'll also cycle through the vast forests along the Brabant-Belgian border.

Riel
In Riel, you'll pass the St. Anthony Abbot Church, among other sights. The current building dates from 1895, although its history dates back to 1444. This expansive border forest is wonderfully peaceful. You'll briefly cross the border into Belgium, then cycle through the fields to Alphen.

Bels Line
Alphen, in this village you'll see, among other things, the St. Willibrord Church. The tower dates back to the sixteenth century; the rest of the church was rebuilt in 1910. From junction 12, you'll cycle for a few kilometers along the Bels Lijntje, a former railway line between Turnhout and Tilburg. This leafy path is wonderful for cycling, with beautiful views of the meadows through the trees.
