Cycling through the forests around Helden

The first section of this route takes you through the villages of Koningslust and Maasbree. Both villages are situated on sandy soil, surrounded by agricultural land. In these villages, you'll get a glimpse of Limburg village life. Just below Koningslust, you'll pass through Vlakbroek, a former marsh that once had an open connection to the Meuse River. Now, you'll see numerous butterflies there. Next, you'll cycle into Boekenderbos, a 234-hectare nature reserve with forests, agricultural fields, and grasslands along the Meuse River. This forest transitions into Heldense Bossen. These forests consist primarily of coniferous forests planted to control the drifting sand dunes in this area. In Panningen, you'll find the start and end point of this route: Cafe Tinus, a pleasant spot for a bite to eat and a drink.
