Description

Coevorden has a rich history. As a former fortified town, it is home to many old buildings. For example, Coevorden Castle is on your route. In the Middle Ages it was a castle, then it was rebuilt and restored to its current form. Further on you enter Dalen. On the edge of this esdorp is De Bente, a corn mill from 1814. Around junction 7 you will see some beautiful old farms and the old village church. You cycle through the former peat landscape to Schoonebeek, a village known for oil extraction. South of Schoonebeek you pass Luchtwachttoren 7Z3. This striking building was renovated in 2019. You then cycle along the Schoonebeekerdiep, which marks the border between the Netherlands and Germany. At Hotel Restaurant Talens it is time for a drink and a snack.
