Beautiful views over water alternate with the interior of Schouwen-Duiveland. With a bit of luck you will see a bat, and you will probably encounter one or more Shetland ponies. A must-see for animal lovers, but also those interested in cultural history will be amazed at the cultural-historical value of Schouwen-Duiveland, which is definitely worth a visit with various windmills and a beautiful estate. From the car park it is only a kilometer and a half by bike to VVV Burgh-Haamstede, where you can pick up more background information about the region before continuing the route south. After two kilometers you arrive in a wooded area at the beautiful Haamstede Castle. This beautiful estate dates from the 13th century, when there was already a residential tower. The rich forest surrounding the tower and the estate provided the residents with wood for various purposes. The castle has been rebuilt and renovated over the centuries and after the Second World War the felling of the forests stopped. The woods and the estate are not open to visitors, but the castle wall is. This is host to a number of special plants, including wall snapdragon and wall fern. About a kilometer further you will find the grain mill'Graanhalm\\\'. This flour mill is the most common type of mill. The Graanhalm was built in 1847 and is still ready for milling. The grain that this mill grinds is mainly supplied to the adjacent pancake house, which uses it to bake delicious pancakes. The route now leads largely along the water. If you decide to take a break at the rustic restaurant'De Schelphoek\\\', you can enjoy beautiful views. In the more than 45 years that the restaurant has existed, it has lived up to its motto 'Hospitality and Good Quality'. With the bicycle discount pass you can enjoy a nice advantage here. After about 22 kilometers you will come to another mill:'De Zwaan\\\'. Although the flour mill is the most common, the type of mill that includes 'De Zwaan' is the best known. This is a typical Dutch windmill! The tour continues north and leads inland. Here you will come across two more windmills:'t Hert and De Lelie. These two mills are also both windmills. By now you have almost crossed the peninsula, so you may want to take a break to enjoy a snack or drink. The bicycle discount pass gives you nice discounts at the charming bungalow parks'Zeeland Village\\\' and'De Soeten Haert\\\', while you enjoy the rustic surroundings. At junction 76 follow the route south through the town of Renesse. Here, Moermond Castle with its thick walls and wide moat and the beautiful Pension't Huys Grol estate are definitely worth a visit.

Moermond Castle in Renesse dates from the 13th century. The castle has a wide driveway and an authentic moat. You don't need a lot of imagination to imagine how it used to be here. The Castle is embraced by the Moermond Estate. A protected natural area. The castle has been destroyed twice by battles and rebuilt. The current Moermond castle is therefore a hotchpotch of architectural styles from different periods.
