Veerse Meer Tour and the Scotsman

History, nature, and man-made landscapes alternate during this beautiful bike ride along Lake Veere. During the ferry crossing, you'll see islands on both sides. These are all artificial islands created in 1961 by sand reclamation. The largest island, Soelekerkeplaat, is on your left. You'll disembark in Veere, a historic town on Walcheren that's well worth exploring. By storing Scottish wool, the town grew into a wealthy fortress. This trade led to a large colony of Scots settling in the port town. Around 1600, 10% of the inhabitants were Scottish. Afterward, you'll take a scenic loop around Lake Veere.
