Tour around the Beulaker and Belterwijde

This cycle route starts at Cafe Restaurant Wapen van Utrecht in Sint-Jansklooster on De Beulakerwijde. This is the largest lake in the Kop van Overijssel. The Beulakerwijde was created by storm surge disasters in 1775, 1776 and 1825. At the time, it was a peat area around the village of Beulake. These strips of land were swept away during the storm surge, creating the lake and disappearing the village of Beulake. When you continue cycling around the Beulakerwijde, you will pass the hamlet of Westeinde, where you will see many marinas. From here you cross the Belterwijde to Belt Schutsloot, a village in the De Wieden nature reserve. Every year, during the village festival on the second Friday of August, the gondola ride is held. From here you continue cycling to the end point of this cycle route in Sint-Jansklooster.
