Tour of the Deurnsche Peel: De Bult and Paardekop

This route takes you along the Deurnsche Peel raised bog area. You will discover the De Bult sub-area and the highest point of De Peel: De Paardekop. The area is varied and diverse, with higher and lower, dry and wet heathlands, forests, fens, and water. The name 'De Paardekop' derives from a legend about a battle that took place in the area between horsemen. Many horse skulls are said to have been found in this area. Along the way, you can dismount briefly at Natuurpoort 't Zandbos . You cycle back via Molen Nooit Gedacht in Merselo. This beautiful old mill was built in 1850 and equipped for grinding grain and oak bark (eek). The mill caught fire twice, but was restored to working order on both occasions.
