Description

This route takes you through the Deurnsche Peel raised bog. You'll discover the De Bult sub-area and the highest point of the Peel: De Paardekop. The area is diverse and varied, with higher and lower, dry and damp heathlands, forests, fens, and water. The name "De Paardekop" derives from a legend about a battle that took place in the area between horsemen. Many horse skulls are said to have been found in this area. Along the way, you can take a break at the Green Valley Estate Nature Gate. You cycle back via the Nooit Gedacht Mill in Merselo. This beautiful old mill was built in 1850 and designed to grind grain and oak bark. The mill caught fire twice, but was restored to working order both times.
