Description

This route takes you from Van Beek Tweewielers through the water-rich area around Hilversum. According to linguists, the name Hilversum should be explained as Hilvertshem, which means "home (houses) among the hills." The Loosdrechtse Bos was formerly a heathland. Planting began in 1683. You then continue towards the beautiful old ribbon village of Westbroek in the Achttienhoven polder. Along the way, you'll also pass the Advent Chapel and Landhuis Achterwetering. Via a narrow stretch of land, you'll reach the villages of Breukeleveen, Muyeveld, and Boomhoek. You'll now cycle along the Loosdrechtse Plassen lakes. Originally, it was a marshland. To drain the area, ditches were dug to the Utrechtse Vecht and Drecht rivers. The resulting peat bog was cut for peat in the 16th century.
