Deciduous and coniferous forests, mixed woodlands, heathland, grassland, and unique remnants of commons and commons: 't Gooi boasts a truly unique and varied landscape. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug runs gently undulating like a sand ridge through the area, while meadows flank the east and west sides. It is a sandy, yet wooded region with many transitions between higher and lower elevations, resulting in a wide diversity of vegetation and animal species. Development is expanding, and natural areas such as the Naardermeer lake and the Goois Nature Reserve are receiving government protection. 't Gooi is a popular region where many beautiful villas are being built. These are spread across six towns, none of which have a proper town center, but together they form a kind of park city. The route starts at a parking lot in Huizen. You cycle through Huizen's new residential areas to the edge of the city. A green, hilly landscape stretches out before you, gradually giving way to flat meadows. The dike along the water-rich Noordpolder Te Veld runs in a straight line to Eemnes. Several charming farmhouses lie on the right along this dike, while on the left, in the distance, you can see the Eem River flowing. The route leads to the heart of the small town of Eemnes, and as you continue cycling, you head towards the Gooise Heide. The beautiful, modern villas of the town of Laren contrast sharply with the cultural history indicated by the 18th-century boundary markers along the cycle path. You arrive at the Zuiderheide, cycling around Blaricum. You cycle north through the heathland, where you'll see ancient burial mounds. These mounds are the final resting place of our ancestors who lived in this area approximately 4,000 years ago, during the Stone and Bronze Ages. You'll cycle back to Huizen through the town of Blaricum, where many old farmhouses still create a charming atmosphere. Near the parking lot, we recommend relaxing and recharging your batteries at restaurant De Haven van Huizen. With a beautiful view of the water, you can enjoy a delicious glass of wine and satisfy your hunger on one of the lovely waterside terraces or in the secluded garden.
