Description

Due to the large height differences, the highest waterfall in the Netherlands can plunge down the Scherpenberg: Loenen waterfall, with a height of 15 meters, is on par with the highest waterfall in our southern neighbors. Springs were constructed to supply the Apeldoorn canal with water. The Loenense Waterfall is such a treat. Due to the height difference, stairs have even been constructed. The Spelderholt was originally a heathland area with sand drifts, colloquially it was called 'The big sand'. The park contains the tallest redwood tree in the Netherlands, a sequoia of 43 meters. The first owner of the Spelderholt was Teixeira de Mattos. He donated it to the state on the condition that a public institution related to forestry, agriculture or horticulture would be established there. This route takes you back in time. You start at the Ruitersmolen in Beekbergen. There has been a mill on this site since 1606. There was even a time when there was a mill on both banks. The Ruitersmolen was originally a paper mill but also functioned as a flour mill for a time. Feel free to take a look inside, there is an interesting exhibition and demonstrations about the art of paper making. Kedeng, kedeng, tuuuttuuut...... Historic diesel locomotives and carriages steam through the beautiful landscape of the Veluwe. Volunteers from the Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij, or VSM for short, maintain a mobile railway museum. Under a viaduct of the A50 you will find the Immenbergweg VSM stop of the Apeldoorn-Dieren track. If you want to come along, you can buy a ticket from the conductor. The 17th and 18th centuries were golden times for the paper industry in the Veluwe. When the industry collapsed in the 19th century, the Middelste Molen continued to innovate by replacing manual work with machines. It is the only paper factory in the Netherlands that has been preserved in its original state. All kinds of paper are still produced in an authentic manner. In addition to a miller, there are many volunteers present, who are happy to explain the technology and production. Once you have pedaled 31 km in the vicinity of Spelderholt, you will arrive at the closed Wildkansel"the Nature Theatre\\\". This game pulpit can be entered with a guide from Staatsbosbeheer.
