Tour of Leeuwarden and The Green Star

This cycling route starts at Camping Kaasboerderij Johanna Hoeve, where you can enjoy the tranquility of the countryside. Yet, you're still close to Leeuwarden. The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were a golden age for Leeuwarden. For centuries, it was the residence of the Nassaus, who became stadtholders of the northern provinces. They lived in the Stadthouderlijk Hof (Stadtholder's Court). You'll see magnificent buildings such as the Kanselarij (where justice was administered), the Waag (Weigh House), and the leaning tower of the Oldehove. A weekly market is held every Friday on Wilhelminaplein. After a walk through the city center, you'll find the tranquility of the De Groene Ster nature and recreation area. In addition to some protected fenland, you'll find ponds, sunbathing areas, a beach, and green spaces. A lovely place to relax with a picnic from the city!
