Noardeast-Fryslân, Friesland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 1101024

The terpen country; a beautiful picturesque landscape which is largely adorned by Frisian mound villages. We can hardly imagine it anymore, but there was a time when sea dikes had not yet been built and mounds protected the villages against the water.
The mound route is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea. On foot you will pass places where water flowed over the plains for centuries. The special churches, windmills and states (special buildings) make the route of approximately 20 kilometers a true experience in all seasons. The highlight of this route is climbing the highest terp (9 meters) in the Netherlands: Hegebeintum!
Starting point: B&B Bloemenhoeve, Burdaard. See yellow dot on the map.
Total length: 24.4 km
