The mound country; a beautiful picturesque landscape, largely decorated with Frisian terp villages. We can hardly imagine it anymore, but there was a time when sea dikes had not yet been built and mounds protected the villages from the water.
The terpen route is part of the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage. On foot you will pass places where water flowed over the plains for centuries. The special churches, mills and states (special buildings) make the route of approximately 20 kilometers a true experience in all seasons. The highlight of this route is climbing the highest mound (9 meters) in the Netherlands: Hegebeintum!
