The famous hydraulic engineer Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater once called De Rijp - his birthplace -'the best village in Holland\\\'. De Rijp was once a bustling fishing town known for its herring fishing and whalers. The traces of this watery history are still visible. De Rijp has a 17th century center with beautiful monuments and picturesque streets, which are definitely worth a walk through.
This route also takes you past a number of special social enterprises. In De Rijp you will find lunchroom Koffie en Lekkers (Jan Boonplein 10, next to the Mennonite church), where people with a distance to the labor market work.
