Hekslootpolder - De Steltkluut - Kijkplatform

Pad naar Assendelft
2026 AX Haarlem

The Hekslootpolder is a unique peat meadow area between Haarlem and Spaarndam. The polder is the last original part of the extensive peat meadow areas that used to be around Haarlem. The Hekslootpolder offers shelter to many types of birds. Large numbers of meadow birds, such as the black-tailed godwit and lapwing, nest there in the spring. In winter, the polder offers space to hundreds of geese, coot, waders, ducks and other hibernators. Spoonbill, cormorant and buzzard can be seen regularly. The old bird hide has definitely fallen prey to vandalism, but a little further along a puddle a viewing platform has arrived.
