Houtse Meer via Den Hout past the duck decoy

You start at Het Houtse Meer, Pannenhuisstraat 40. There is plenty of parking here. You will soon pass a second catering establishment with a terrace at the authentic Herberg'T Klosterke in Den Hout. In this rustic village you can enjoy the view over the beautiful village green from the terrace. From here you walk along a beautiful rural route through the meadows in the Binnenpolder of Terheijden. There is a duck decoy in the middle of the area, now a shelter for birds, butterflies and special plants. This nature reserve was created as a result of a typical centuries-old Dutch hunting profession. From the fifteenth century onwards, hundreds of duck decoys appeared throughout the Netherlands, with which thousands of ducks were caught. The profession is still protected by medieval laws. The cage in Terheijden is one of the oldest in Brabant and was in use from 1693 to 1935.
