After a night under the stars in one of the studios of B&B De Ster van Dwingeloo, you can start this walking route. You walk more than twenty kilometers through the Holtingerveld and Dwingelderveld. Both nature areas have a humid character due to a layer of boulder clay in the soil. This layer keeps water standing. Heath and pipe straw grow there together with more rare plants such as bell gentian and peat rush. For thousands of years people have been migrating over these moorlands. Ever to find food. Much later to graze cattle. Now walkers and cyclists make grateful use of the dozens of winding paths, picnic areas and benches in this primeval area. Back at the accommodation you can enjoy the beautiful, quiet heath as a backyard.
