Tour of Baarle in the footsteps of the border guard

After a cup of coffee at Brasserie De Kievit, put on your walking shoes. You walk straight through the woods to Landgoed Schaluinen, near the Belgian border. Smuggling used to be very interesting this close to the border. In the post-war days, the economy had to be rebuilt and the whole of Baarle was happily smuggling. In the outlying area you will find many sandy paths that have served as smuggling routes. Walking on the narrow paths through forests and past fields, you can easily imagine how things used to be here. Back in Baarle you notice that you are in an enclave village. In total, 30 pieces of Belgium and the Netherlands are intertwined! You walk back via the Bels Lijntje, a former railway line.
