Tour of Twiske, Ilpendam and Amsterdam

Your bike tour starts at Cafe't Sluisje in IJburg. Today you will follow a wonderfully green cycle route through a typical Dutch area: Waterland. This is a unique Dutch peat meadow landscape. So special that this low-lying area has been designated a National Landscape. The tour takes you through typical North Holland villages such as Holysloot and Ilpendam. Broek in Waterland is a beautiful old village where you see many monumental wooden houses, often painted in pastel shades. You will also discover't Twiske, a nature and recreational area that was created, among other things, by peat extraction. The Oostzanerveld peat meadow area has a protected status as part of the Laag Holland National Landscape. The so-called boating farmers used to go here with their boats to visit the cows. In Amsterdam-Noord you cross the IJ twice with the ferry, fun!
