This more than forty kilometer long cycle tour through a typical Dutch water landscape and past ancient forts starts here. After crossing Bussum, you arrive in the beautiful fortified town of Naarden. This is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe. Just outside Naarden you cycle past Fort Ronduit. This fort was built as additional defense for the fortified city. Your tour continues to the Muiderslot. This medieval castle, located in Muiden, was built around 1296. Via the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and Nigtevecht you continue the route along the Ankeveense Plassen. It is not without reason that this nature reserve is so popular among water sports enthusiasts, hikers and cyclists.

The Muiderslot is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the Netherlands. It was built around 1285 by Count Floris V, as one of the castles to keep North Holland under control. Ten years later the count was kidnapped and taken to Muiden. After a few days of imprisonment, his captors decided it was no longer safe and took Floris with them. When enraged farmers tried to free him, Floris was murdered.
