This walking route takes you through the Cartierheide and the Kempen. Napoleon's armies marched on the historic sandy paths of the Cartierheide and the forests were the habitat of smugglers for centuries. The varied heathland area owes its name to the Baron de Cartier de Marchienne, who owned parts as hunting grounds until 1932. In addition to various heather species, you will find the fritillary butterfly, viviparous lizard and smooth snake. You start the route at Natuurpoort De Negende Zaeligheyt, located in the Brabantse Kempen and a stone's throw from Belgium, this place is the starting point of a beautiful tour through a beautiful green border region with a rich history. You can spend the night here and enjoy delicious food and drinks after your walk through the natural surroundings.
